Searching for high redshift galaxies and quasars with SPHEREX and Euclid

,

Professor: Asantha Cooray

Description: Euclid is an ESA mission that was launched in 2023 and taking data till 2029. SPHEREx is a NASA mission that will launch in Feb 2025 and will map the whole sky, detecting billion galaxies in 102 spectral channels. My group at UCI are leading science studies in both Euclid and SPHEREx having worked on their development since the first stages over a decade ago. We are also designing next generation infrared telescopes and setting science goals. Cal-Bridge scholar is free to work on any number of data analysis projects with Euclid and SPHEREx data. If the scholar has applied physics/engineering interests, welcome to join teams working on the design studies for NASA proposals for future missions. Collaborations within large teams and aerospace companies are a necessary aspect of the group’s research program.

Preferred Qualifications: Python, data analysis experience, for some projects some mechanical and/or computer science and engineering.
