Cal-Bridge Pure Mathematics Summer REU

Professor: Suzanne Fernandes-Sindi

Description: Spend your summer doing pure mathematics research at UCSB. The 8-week Cal-Bridge Pure Math Summer Program at UC Santa Barbara will give you the opportunity to work in small teams learning and tackling research problems in areas such as algebra, topology, and analysis. Topics and problem sets may vary based on the experience of students in upper-division pure math courses to ensure experience challenges all participants while building the skills needed for graduate-level work in pure mathematics. While the program is focused on proof-based pure mathematics, some projects may draw on applied areas in which rigorous theoretical tools—such as matrix analysis or spectral graph theory—play a central role. Mentorship from faculty and advanced graduate students, combined with collaboration with fellow Cal-Bridge scholars, will strengthen your reasoning, problem-solving, and presentation abilities—preparing you for both research and the next step in your academic journey.
