Cal-Bridge Alumni Council & Community

The Alumni Council & Community are open to all Cal-Bridge graduates and alumni interested in remaining engaged with the Cal-Bridge network. We provide ongoing community support, peer connection, and professional guidance as alumni transition into graduate programs, postdoctoral positions, academia, and the STEM workforce. Alumni stay connected via a dedicated messaging network, attend community meetings at events like the annual Summer Institute and Fall Conference, and pay it forward through workshop facilitation and advising incoming cohorts of scholars.

Cal-Bridge Community

Community connection serves as a cornerstone of the Cal-Bridge pathway. From undergraduate research through doctoral completion and early-career professional roles, Cal-Bridge facilitates sustained networking and collaboration across all cohorts, alumni, mentors, and leadership throughout the network.

Community Building & Event Integration: Community engagement is sustained through site-based professional development activities and built-in social events for community and fun. Core gatherings include the comprehensive Undergraduate Workshops, Doctoral Summer Institute, and community-wide Fall Conference. These core events offer scholars and alumni opportunities to engage directly with each other across cohorts, and with postdocs and faculty.
Continuous Peer Support & Mentorship: Scholars access multi-tiered mentoring structures and a dedicated messaging platform to facilitate smooth academic and professional transitions.
Alumni Engagement & Leadership: Alumni contribute active leadership by co-chairing working groups, facilitating professional workshops, and advising current scholars. Initiatives such as the Alumni Action Grants enable alumni to lead community-focused projects and advance long-term network growth.

Alumni Council

The Alumni Council serves as a leadership body that guides strategic initiatives, facilitates peer networking, and supports mentorship programs for Cal-Bridge graduates. Council members oversee key projects, organize annual community gatherings, and represent alumni interests across governance committees. Through these efforts, the council fosters continuous engagement and advances long-term network growth.

Key Projects & Focus Areas

Community & Peer Networking: Facilitating structured communication and peer support platforms for alumni across academic programs and professional sectors.
Alumni Action Grants Program: Overseeing annual funding for alumni-led initiatives, participating in dual-anonymous review panels, and coordinating grant administration.
Annual Events & Community Meetings: Organizing alumni sessions and networking discussions at core gatherings, including the Cal-Bridge Summer Institute and Fall Conference.
Leadership & Committee Governance: Co-chairing the Alumni Council and serving on organizational steering committees, advisory boards, and working groups, such as the Inclusive Leadership Working Group.

Council Positions, Roles & Activities

Organization & Leadership: Coordinating and directing overarching Alumni Council operations and strategic initiatives network-wide.
Network Development & Facilitation: Leading specialized panels, focus groups, and interactive workshops, including “Life as a PhD,” “Graduate School I and II,” “Planning Next Steps,” and “Navigating the PhD”.
Advisors to Alumni Council Groups: Participating in 4–6 advisory sessions as part of postdoctoral or professional service duties.
