Engineers for Exploration
Professor: Curt Schurgers
Description: Engineers for Exploration (E4E; https://e4e.ucsd.edu/) is a multidisciplinary research program where engineering students work on projects driven by real-world challenges in environmental conservation and wildlife research. Students collaborate with domain scientists who provide the context, constraints, and goals for each project. Past projects have included machine learning for animal vocalization analysis, wildlife tracking via radio telemetry, and underwater imaging systems for monitoring marine life, offering students the opportunity to apply engineering skills to meaningful, impactful problems at the intersection of technology and science.
Preferred Qualifications: We place a high value on prior experience, specifically related to system building and advanced software development. This could be, for example, working with machine learning, embedded software, signal processing, hardware design, etc.
